KARASAWA Interior Studio is an award-winning, full-service Portland interior design studio specializing in remodels and new construction, founded by Midori Karasawa.

Midori, a native of Tokyo Japan embraces the meaning of Kakushiaji, which refers to a virtue of Japanese culture; the belief that what's hidden is as important as what's front and center. She gracefully embeds subtle Japanese cultural sensibilities and beauty into her design.

KARASAWA Interior Studio Philosophy: Midori understands the effect that the physical environment has on one’s wellbeing, and places emphasis on how a space makes homeowners, guests, and customers feel. Beyond form and function, she considers atmosphere and ambiance to be equally important factors. She begins the design process by listening to her clients, and understanding their vision, goals, and challenges.

In every interior design project, she focuses on creating a flow of space that encourages positive emotions and experiences. To achieve this, she practices three guiding principles for design excellence:

1. Use environmental graphics inspired by nature, as well as colors that are playful and bold to activate positivity and joy.

2. Incorporate nature and natural light to invite the outdoors in, creating a seamless transition from interior to exterior.

3. Human-centered design with an emphasis on listening to client needs.
